Standard Guitar Tuning (e, B, G, D, A, E)
Standard Guitar Tuning
We can say it is the "suggested", "universal" or standard guitar tuning. The strings are tuned up in e, B, G, D, A, E from the first string (the thinnest) to the sixth one (the thickest). ). Notice that the intervals between one string to the following one is exactly a fourth, except for the major third between the second and the third strings - a particular variation on this special pattern.
The standard guitar tuning is the most versatile because you can play without problems almost all the known chords, scales and songs, and with other musicians that execute their parts on other kinds of instruments (E.g. the trumpet, the piano) that are not easy to transpose. Musicians agree that the standard guitar tuning is the best one when playing this instrument. This is the most popular tuning for guitarists, most of us use it mainly or at least frequently.
This tuning is highly recommended for guitars with light gauge strings installed (usually starting at 0.8 or 0.9 inches)
Guitar heroes using this tuning? Many: Angus Young, John Frusciante, Joe Satriani and a lot others.
Remember always that, going from the thinnest string to the thickest (the one with the "lower" sounds), the strings are tuned up this way: e (for the 1st string), B (for the 2nd), G (3rd string), D (4th string), A (5th string) and E (for the 6th string).
If you are beginner or just want to play the guitar with your favorite records, the standard guitar tuning is for you.
