Open G Guitar Tuning (D, B, G, D, G, D)

Open G Guitar Tuning (D, B, G, D, G, D)

Open G Guitar Tuning

The open G guitar tuning is also called "The Spanish Tuning". Similar as the D tuning, it has almost the same use. Recommended for slides and G Major songs. Excellent to play phrases and rhythm parts using open strings.

When you play in the open G guitar tuning the six strings should be tuned up according to the following pattern: D, B, G, D, G, D counting from the first string (the thinnest) to the sixth one (the thickest).

This kind of tuning is more often used by guitarists with several guitars in his rig because it would be almost impossible to find a show with all the songs arranged for the same tonality (G). You should have al least two guitars, while you play one, the other should be tuned by your roadie for the next song's tonality...or more guitars tuned in different tunings.
